Master Jae Ro Ahn

8th Degree Black Belt

Grand Master Jae Ro Ahn is Master Anna YS Ahn’s 2nd older brother.

He is a Kukkiwon Certified 8th Degree Black Belt holder. With over 45 years of martial arts experience, he is an expert not just in the physical aspect of Taekwondo, but in the theoretical and intellectual aspect as well. GM Jae Ro Ahn majored in Taekwondo and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from Kyung Hee University, the best university in Korea that offers bachelor and master degrees of Taekwondo, and his Master’s Degree in Taekwondo Theory was received from Korea National Sport University.

Taekwondo made its debut as a demonstration Olympic sport at the 1988 Seoul Games, and became an official medal sport at the 2000 Sydney Games. To stay relevant in the Olympics, Taekwondo had to change and evolve. GM Jae Ro Ahn was one of the important personnel involved for the changes to further develop taekwondo. He was one of the influential members who was responsible for the amendments that were made to the poomsae forms, a patterned series of offensive and defensive techniques performed against an imaginary opponent.

Poomsae forms were being reformed and modified to keep up with the times and GM Jae Ro Ahn was one of the research team that helped restructure the remodeled rules and regulations for the modern poomsae competitions.

From among many awards and recognitions, GM Jae Ro Ahn received the Presidential Award in 2016 for the contributions and accomplishments he has made to the taekwondo world. He was appointed as a national representative head coach and had all gold medalist winners in the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships of 2012 and 2013. In addition to all his achievements, GM Jae Ro Ahn also co-authored taekwondo training books to help other Masters of taekwondo, realizing that not enough books were available for the training for taekwondo Masters.

The newest chapter for GM Jae Ro Ahn is his new organization, Hongik E-Hwa. He has challenged himself to educate and train the crѐam de la crѐam taekwondo Masters and pass along his ideals and knowledge to go back to the origins of taekwondo and be able to perform poomsae forms with accuracy and precision.

Poomsae seminar invitations have taken GM Jae Ro Ahn all over the world including, Belgium, China, France, India, Iraq, Japan, Korea and the United States. He has recently moved to the United States with his family and is looking forward to setting up his new school in the near future while staying active internationally.
